Study on aspirin and cancer New research published in 'The Lancet' suggests that taking low doses of aspirin on a daily basis may prevent cancer occurring, as well as slowing its progress, and that evidence shows the drug’s anti-cancer benefits may be more substantial than its protective effect on the heart and arteries. However, Professor Peter Rothwell lead author of the research, said the effect of aspirin was relatively small and stopping smoking, for example, ‘would have a far bigger effect on reducing the risk of cancer’.
