A poll carried out by Ipsos Mori Scotland on behalf of The Princess Royal Trust for Carers in Scotland has reported that young carers are missing out on the everyday activities enjoyed by others of their age.
As reported in The Scotsman, when comparing the lives of carers aged 10 to 19 with others the same age, the survey found that only about 11 % of young carers see their friends every day, compared to 37% of other young people. The results of the survey are published to coincide with the start of the annual Scottish Young Carers Festival today, which will run for three days at Broomlee Outdoor Centre in West Linton, in the Borders. The event, funded by the Scottish Government and organised by The Princess Royal Trust for Carers in Scotland, on behalf of the Scottish Young Carers Services Alliance, will bring together 600 young carers, who will be given the chance of a well earned break and to meet others in the same position.
