Silver award - step-by-step

As a guide, the timescale for achieving your silver award is usually 18 months.

Months 1-3

• Organise working group meeting - invite link officer to bring your portfolio and tell you what is required at Silver level.
  
• Decide on the additional criterion and plan work
  
• Create action plan (Sample Action Plan Word version, Sample Action Plan PDF version).
  
• Apply for a Health at Work small grant if required
• Submit existing policies to link officer for assessment or develop new policies for the following:
• Alcohol and drugs - Sample Policy Word version, Sample Policy PDF version
• Healthy eating - guidance if you have a canteen (with canteen Word version, with canteen PDF version). Scottish Healthy Choices Award
• Physical activity - guidance
  
• Find out about the Health at Work small grant scheme.

Maintain bronze award

• Review bronze maintenance action plan (should be in bronze portfolio)
  
• Order resources
  
• Deliver 1st info campaign

Months 4-6

• Plan Needs assessment (Need Assessments Word Version, Need Assessments PDF Version)
  
• Plan Health Checks (Health Checks Word version, Health Checks PDF version)
  
• Policy development and initiatives - continue work
  • Healthy eating
  • Physical activity
  • Alcohol and drugs
    
• Continue work on additional criterion
  
• Ensure working group members update the portfolio with evidence after every activity
  • Portfolio record sheets (Record Sheet Word Version, Record Sheet PDF Version)

• Deliver 2nd info campaign - evaluate its impact (Delegate Evaluation Form Word version, Delegate Evaluation Form PDF version).
  
• Deliver 1st interactive event

Months 7-9

• Continue Needs Assessment work

Months 13-15

• Ensure all policy work is complete and policy documents have been assessed and passed for SHAW by link officer
  • Alcohol and drugs

• Ensure Health Checks have been carried out and any report is kept as evidence
  
• Ensure that results of Needs Assessment have been seen by staff· Complete work on additional criterion

• Deliver 1st info campaign of year

Months 16-18

• Complete portfolio / SME toolkit and submit to Health at Work.
  
• Prepare for on-site assessment.

• Deliver 1st interactive event of year - evaluate its impact (Delegate Evaluation Form Word version, Delegate Evaluation Form PDF version).
