Needs assessment

Principles

  1. REPRESENTATION
All employees, or a representative sample of employee sections/grades must be included in the process. Any information collected will therefore be an accurate reflection of the workplace population.
  2. OBJECTIVITY
    • A range of questions is required to pull out all the key concerns and health issues of employees.
    • In the workplace, individual lifestyle, environmental and organisational issues all interact to affect employee health. Therefore all areas need to be covered.
    • Some questions may appear sensitive - don’t be afraid to ask them, but be prepared for honesty and to follow all issues through.
  3. CONFIDENTIALITY
Anonymity and confidentiality of all information collected must be assured. This will improve response rates, particularly for questionnaires.
  4. FEEDBACK AND ACTION
Feedback the results to all employees and develop a plan of action.
